Base earns top community flagship award

NSB Kings Bay captured top honors during the Southeast Region Navy Community Service Program competition for 2006. The base received first place awards for the flagships of Health, Safety and Fitness and Campaign Drug Free for their dedicated service with the neighboring Camden County community. [ More ]


Kings Bay concludes successful CFC
The American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and Defenders of Wildlife were just a few of the more than 20,000 charities that benefited from the generosity of NSB Kings Bay military and Department of Defense employees during the annual Combined Federal Campaign which ended Jan. 31.

Many servicemembers allow a good chunk of their paycheck to be invested in various corporations with the help of the Thrift Savings Plan system every month. This money is collected over many years by active duty Sailors who want to build up their assets and save for retirement.


VITA offers free tax preparation for Sailors
Tax season begins as soon as the W-2 forms are issued this month and will run through April 15. This is also a time when getting that new car you did not get for Christmas filters into the thoughts of many Sailors and Marines. Many tax preparation companies offer the enticement of "Instant money" to file your taxes, and getting that cash for the down payment. These are basically short team loans at high-interest rates, which is a loan against money that is already yours.

The Child Development Center has programs for children of all ages
With most Navy spouses working during the day, it may become difficult to take care of an infant or toddler. Luckily, NSB Kings Bay has a Child Development Center with an outstanding program. Although many Kings Bay military families with newborns tend to keep their children at home until pre-K, it sometimes makes good sense for mothers to enroll their children at the CDC while working during the day.
