Royal Navy sub visits Kings Bay

The Royal Navy Fleet Submarine HMS Trenchant (S91) arrived in Kings Bay for a scheduled port visit June 11. Home ported at the Devonport Naval Base, in Plymouth, England, the Trenchant made the long trip "across the pond" to Southeastern Georgia's shores. The official reason for the stop in Kings Bay was to test and update their weapons system, but the stop is also gave the crew some much needed liberty. [ More ]

NMCRS wraps up successful 2007 campaign
Sailors and Marines at NSB Kings Bay helped honor the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society's motto of "Taking Care of their Own," as they raised more than $78,000 to help servicemembers and families in need during the annual NMCRS fund drive.

Health clinic honors corpsman rating
The Naval Branch Health Clinic at NSB Kings Bay recognized more than a century of military service and honored those who have fallen before them during a celebration of the Hospital Corpsmen Rating June 15.

NEX gives Kings Bay's barbershop a facelift
While the past several years have seen many Navy services get handed over to independent contractors, the Navy Exchange recently went in the opposite direction, bettering its service and saving money in the process. Across the nation's Navy bases, the NEX has assimilated previously indirect-run barbershops by not renewing contracts with barber companies. NSB Kings Bay's Navy Exchange recently broke ties with a company operating out of California and gave the barbershop a facelift as a result.

Sea Cadets land at NSB Kings Bay
As school ended and summer began, the past three weeks have brought several groups of aspiring young military disciples to NSB Kings Bay to hone their marching skills, among other things. Wearing the familiar utilities as they march around base, the Sea Cadets attended submarine school, which proved to be a memorable experience for these young adults.
