Rhode Island Sailors earn Dolphins

Three USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) (Gold) Sailors received their Submarine Warfare insignia pins June 28 in a ceremony at the St. Marys Submarine Museum. MT3 Douglas Carter, ET3 Kenny McKee and ETSN Bartolo Fuentes had their warfare insignia, commonly referred to as dolphins, pinned on by George Scheer and William Castleberry. Scheer and Castleberry are both World War II Submarine Veterans and their participation in the ceremony was important to the Rhode Island Sailors.

CNO reflects on the passing of Rear Adm. Fluckey
Every man and woman serving our Navy today joins me in mourning the death of retired Rear Adm. Eugene Fluckey, recipient of the Medal of Honor and a true naval hero. We extend humbly to his family our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies in this, their time of great grief and sorrow.

St. Marys hosts Kingfish Classic Tournament
Live music, barbeque competitions, the excitement of competitive fishing and cash prizes were some of the attractions offered during the annual St. Marys Kingfish Classic Tournament held June 29 and 30 in downtown St. Marys. The event was sponsored by a multitude of local vendors, drawing in hundreds of families and professional fishing teams from around the country. The event kicked off the 2007 Kingfish Classic Series to be held through Sep. 22, with four other events to be held throughout the country.
