England may return as SECNAV

Gordon England, who had served as Secretary of the Navy prior to taking his current post as deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has been nominated to take the helm of the Navy once again.


President George W. Bush recently announced his intention to nominate Gordon England to resume his former role within the administration as Secretary of the Navy.

“I am pleased to learn of the President’s intent to nominate Secretary Gordon England as the Secretary of the Navy,” said Hansford Johnson, acting Secretary of the Navy. “He has proven his leadership here in the Navy and Marine Corps, and we look forward to welcoming him home.”

Prior to his current position as deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, England served as Secretary of the Navy. Earlier, he served as executive vice president of General Dynamics Corporation.

Throughout his career, England has served as a member of the Defense Science Board and has received awards from the National Defense Industrial Association and the National Management Association. He is also a member of the Aviation Heritage Hall of Fame. England received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and his master’s from the M.J. Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University.
