Adm. Charles Young (left), director of the Strategic Systems Program, presents the Raborn award to officials from Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic. Capt. Doug White, SWFLANT commanding officer, and CMDCM(SS) Tim Logan, SWFLANT command master chief, accepted the award, which the command earned for the second consecutive year.

Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic has been selected for the second consecutive year to receive the Raborn Award, which was awarded during a recent ceremony held at the NSB Kings Bay auditorium.

Adm. Charles Young, director of the Strategic Systems Program, presented the award. Young commented about how SWFLANT has made incredible strides to complete each and every goal laid before their path to earn the award for a second straight year.

''Achieving this award is a sign of quality and performance and the right way to do business,'' said Young. ''Now I am laying down a challenge for SWFLANT to win this award three years in a row.''

The Raborn Award is named for Adm. William F. ''Red'' Raborn, the first director of SSP. Raborn is legendary in the strategic deterrence community for delivering the first submarine-launched ballistic missile system five years ahead of schedule, leading technology in solid rocket propellants and guidance, and development of effective program management techniques.

''It was very easy selecting you for this award, because regardless of any operational commitments you faced, you did a fantastic job without complaining,'' said Young. ''You knew what the country needed and you made it happen in spite of the obstacles that came with it and I commend you for your dedication.''
